Welcome to the Community Music School!

Since 1996, the Community Music School has helped students of all ages and skill levels across Calhoun, Branch, and Kalamazoo counties pursue their musical dreams. The Community Music School offers a variety of music education, from one-on-one lessons and group classes to ensembles of all types. Learn to play the guitar as you’ve always dreamed about, take pleasure in singing, enjoy learning piano, embrace the violin... the options are unlimited!

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced musician, our talented instructors will help you get the most from your instrument to advance to the next level of expertise and enjoyment.

Music training provides a wealth of benefits, from helping children do better in school to keeping older minds sharp. Plus, it’s a lot of fun!


One-on-One Lessons

Enjoy one-on-one time with your favorite instructor to develop your musical talent! We offer piano, voice, and stringed instruments such as violin, viola, cello, mandolin, guitar, and ukulele. In addition, you’ll find great instructors for trumpet, tuba, horn, flute, clarinet, saxophone, percussion, and more. Call for details and availability. We welcome students of all ages and all skill levels!

Tuition**

Most one-on-one lessons are 30 minutes long with other options available. Discounts and payment plans are available. See the Scholarships tab for more information. **We are in the process of updating all tuition fees to our new prices starting on July 1st 2024, please allow us time to update all fees. New pricing is as follows
20 Minutes: $18
30 Minutes: $27
45 Minutes: $40
60 Minutes: $53


Group Classes

Music First!

Ages 0-5: This group class is based on the Gordon Music Learning Theory. Children and their adults bond through singing, dancing, and exploration of simple instruments.

Tuition

Group classes are scheduled for 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the class. $13 per student for most group classes.

Choruses

The Battle Creek Community Chorus

The Battle Creek Community Chorus is an adult chorus dedicated to the enjoyment of vocal music and excellence in performance. The Community Chorus’s motto is, “We sing for the joy of singing.” The Chorus covers a variety of music, from classical to popular and everything in between, and performs on occasion with the Battle Creek Symphony. The Chorus welcomes all singers in high school and beyond who would like to sing a variety of choral music with the highest performance standards. Experience singing in choirs is not essential, but very helpful.

Tuition

$160 for the year. Generous financial aid is available; call the office for more details on how to apply.

We take the safety of our students and staff very seriously and follow the CDC and State of Michigan safety guidelines. While we understand some may wish to adhere to their own interpretation of protocols, you will be required to comply with safety postings in our building in order to participate in our classes and lessons.
